College: Up Close and Personal

The college admission season is upon us, and this week we witnessed some college-focused activities on campus.

Virtual College Fair

On November 3rd, the college counselling team held a virtual college fair. Admission officers from over 20 universities were invited to the fair. Our high school students from G9 to G12 had the opportunity to talk with them while utilizing a “College Passport” resource guide. Each student attending college “booths” fill out personal booklets with information about each college. They quickly reflect if this is a school they would like to follow up with and, if need, directly contact the representatives they met with, most of which were international admissions directors and assistant directors.

Alumni Panels, Q&As

Alumni from the Classes of 2021 and 2022 held a communication session with our high school students online. Moderated by our counselors, current students were curious about every aspect of their future life in universities, which made the conversation meaningful and interesting.The alumni all met live from their campuses from the US to Korea. They shared updates about their new schools as freshmen and second year students. Intimate and very “real” advice and experiences were shared. Highlights included – sharing with our students about the best advice they would give themselves if they had a chance to speak with their pre-graduation selves, and an incident in which at the beginning of one of the session the alum’s dormitory was evacuated due to a smoke alarm. He took us along for the ride and introduced us to friends among the hundreds of students that poured out as a result. The rest of the conversation took place during a real-time tour of the school grounds.
