The Title of this Unit is community and language, urban design concepts vary from country to country. The living standards of people in different countries and areas also determine what kind of housing and living standards we have, which is inseparable from culture, customs and so on. So these learning activities can link with the Unit very closely.

From the very beginning of the Unit, students were aware of the Statement of Inquiry and learning activities: what are the social and cultural characteristics can be linked with the living environment and city planning?

So, during these activities, students should always think about Inquiry Questions.

– Factual Question: How to describe the city I designed to someone else in Mandarin?

– Conceptual Question: Why do different countries and cultures have different city planning?

– Debatable Question: Am I a multicultural person?

These activities made students achieve the following effects: First, of course, language learning, including words and syntax. Second, improve students’ ability of exploring and inquiring. Third, the awareness of multiculturalism is strengthened.
