Early Years Home Activity Guidance – Art

BIS is happy to provide a series of home activities for our young learners and their parents, including Arts, Literacy, Maths and Science, etc. Please start with us to inspire your children at home!

 

Arts

Children are born artists! Arts develops their observation, imagination and aesthetics. Provide them with some simple materials and inspire them to creat!

 

01 Self-portraits

Using a mirror to help children draw themselves. Point out facial features like eyebrows and eyelashes. If they draw their whole body, add in some fashion design! Don’t be surprised if your child did some innovation, i.e. “Yes, I do have rainbow hair!”

 

02 Shapes 

Help your child learn shapes by tracing common household items. Turn over a cup to make circles and trace your cell phone for rectangles. Kids may want to decorate their shapes, cut them out and glue them on to larger paper for fancy art projects.

 

03 Dyed paper

Use paper towels and a few colors of either diluted food coloring or liquid tempera paint to make fantastic tie-dye designs.

04 Squiggle art

Get your children a piece of paper, let them draw a squiggle on it, then make a picture out of the squiggle. Simple design also can be very beautiful, you can turn any mark into art.

 

05 Bookmaking

Encourage your children to make their own books. Fold paper in half and staple at the crease to make pages. Children have so many stories to tell through there painting and writing. This simple activity builds their confidence, self-esteem and literacy skills.

06 Collage

Recycle old magazines with your imagination. Let children choose and cut their favorite pictures out of magazines (or help them). Then they glue them on paper, then draw and decorate all around it.

 

07 Melted crayons

If you have discarded crayons, recycle them for some new activities!

08 Masks

Homemade masks are fairly easy to make, yet are highly covetable. There are so many possibilities for characters, from animals to superheroes, and lots of variations in color and shape.
