Xinwu District Health Commission Visit

To better promote contagion prevention and control, members from Xinwu District Health Commission visited BIS on October 27th. With the coming seasons of fall and winter, the Health Commission members reminded students to raise their awareness of personal hygiene to prevent the infectious virus like COVID-19 and Norovirus. Students were happy to meet with Health Commission on their prevention booths. By correctly answering questions, students were rewarded by gifts prepared by Health Commission.

Parent Workshop – Child Development

On October 28th, Mr. Carlos Arboleda, our Student Service Director and College Counsellor gave a speech on Child Development to parents. Using an image of the moral stages proposed by Lawrence Kohlberg and Maslow’s theory of Hierarchy of Needs, Mr. Arboleda gave specific analysis on children’s characteristic features of each stage and corresponding home education that should be provided by parents.

Mr. Arboleda then went on to explain four typical parenting styles, i.e. authoritarian, authoritative, permissive and uninvolved. He encouraged parents to reflect their home education and share experiences with each other.

G1 – Morning Tea of Gratitude

Grade 1 just completed their unit of inquiry with the emphasis on communities. Their central idea was ‘People in communities work together to help each other.’ They spent time learning about the different people in a community and the important roles they play to help others. They also discussed their school community and the importance of each person’s job within that community. As a final action piece for the unit, students invited the Ayi’s and security guards to a morning tea to say thank you for all the work they do to keep our school clean and safe. Students made thank you cards and brought in food to serve. They served juice, tea, and snacks to the ayi’s and security guards.

Students also prepared a reader’s theater play of Stone Soup to perform during the morning tea. Stone Soup is a story that teaches the importance of community and sharing a meal together. It was a wonderful event to build an attitude of gratitude in our students.
