PYP Exhibition – Share the Planet

PYP Exhibition – Share the Planet

Through its inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, IBPYP challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts.

On June 16th, our P5 students held their PYP Exhibition to present their inquiry into how people can effectively ‘Share the Planet’.

Space Junk

Central Idea: The wider-earth and space requires support from humans.

The group chose an innovate way to present their project. Using green screen and stop motion, they even made a movie to show how space junk is generated and warn people about the negative impacts of space junk.

Space Junk (Fixing the problem)

Central Idea: The wider-earth and space requires support from humans.

They took an inquiry into how space junk will affect the earth and the human being. The group have designed a website to share information on this. Please scan the QR code on the business card they designed to redirect to the website.

Ocean Waste

Central Idea: The impact of plastic has a wider effect on our world.

The group inquired into how ocean waste is jeopardizing the living environment of the marine life. To make it more visualize, they made a turtle by recycling materials to show how plastic is harming creature’s physical health.

Wuxi’s Plastic Problem

Central Idea: Non-recyclable items have changed the planet we live in.

The group chose a topic discussing about local issues while also reflecting to global ones. They inquired into the water types and analyzed the impact of plastic waste. They also investigated into the use of recycling water.

Composting

Central Idea: The things we throw away incorrectly are affecting out world.

The student inquired into how to reduce the use of non-recyclable package of waste. His action was creating a compost bin to help reduce some of the waste the school produces. He followed the design cycle to create his action.

How Other People Live

Central Idea: Everyone person should have equal access to resources.

The group focused on the poverty community. They realized that not everyone in this world have born access to the resources we are enjoying now. So they are willing to help those who are struggling to live. The Fun Run Donation Activity they held had got a great success and reported on TV news. They fun raised over 400 products!

Animal welfare

Central Idea: Animals and their rights are impacted by human choices.

The student inquired into how the life cycles of animals change and how humans affect the health, well-being and energy of animals. She raised some points for animal owners on what they should do to take good care of their pets. She created an online PDF book that can be viewed on the internet.

Palm Oil is in Everything

Central Idea: Palm is in many products that are bad for the environment.

The group looked into palm oil and simulated its production. They found the wide use of palm oil in almost everything we need in real life scenarios, especially food. They call for the recyclable substitute for palm oil.

Wind Energy

Central Idea: All energy sources have different needs and requirements from humans.

The group inquired into different kinds of energy sources and listed their advantages and disadvantages. They designed a model to show how wind energy works: once the wind blows, a light in the model will be turned on.

Solar Energy

Central Idea: Solar energy is a good energy to use and will be more popular in the future.

The group looked into the use of solar energy and designed a simulation model to show how sunshine is collected by a solar panel and then transferred to an eco-friendly energy.

Infinite and Finite Energy

Central Idea: The world is affected by the way we use energy sources.

The group compared finite energy and renewable energy. As human is utilizing energies every single day, the energy we choose will direct to very different future which we are going to live.
