To help our MYP parents to understand more about the IBMYP curriculum, on February 27th 2019, Boston International School held the second Parent Workshop for this semester, What is IBMYP Education, presented by our MYP Coordinator, Mr. Robert Young.
Mr. Young brings with him 15 years of experience as a teacher, curriculum coordinator, assistant principal, and school principal. His educational philosophy has been shaped through work experiences in both Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound and International Baccalaureate Program Schools.
At the beginning of the workshop, Mr. Young gave a thorough overview of the MYP curriculum Model, then he explained the AIMS and the OBJECTIVES of all the MYP subjects. To get parents better involved in the process, Mr. Young gave our parents three AIMS and three OBJECTIVES for the day, through examples Mr. Young helped our parents understand the differences between AIMS and OBJECTIVES, and had an open discussion at the same time.
Mr. Young then emphasized the importance of the MYP Subject Guides for all the subjects. He helped parents walked through the aims, objectives with some of the subject guides. Another important area that Mr. Young emphasized is the assessment system. He explained in details the different criteria of assessment, and how the students are graded.
Lastly, Mr. Young showed an online tutorial of ‘How to Navigate Managebac’, which can help our parents to take full advantage of the system. He also shared important resources for parents to take home for a further review.
Upcoming next, on Wednesday March 27th, with our D2 students receiving many offers from Top Universities around the world, our College Counselor Mr. Wagner is going to present, College Acceptances – Now What? We are looking forward to seeing you then!
