The University of Toronto #29

The University of Toronto is a public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The university was the birthplace of insulin and stem cell research, and was the site of the first practical electron microscope, the development of deep learning, multi-touch technology, the identification of the first black hole Cygnus X-1, and the development of the theory of NP-completeness. It receives the most annual scientific research funding of any Canadian university and is one of two members of the Association of American Universities outside the United States, the other being McGill University.

The University of Toronto has educated three Governors General of Canada, four Prime Ministers of Canada, and fourteen Justices of the Supreme Court. As of March 2019, ten Nobel laureates, five Turing Award winners, 94 Rhodes Scholars, and one Fields Medalist have been affiliated with the university.

In global university league tables, the university was ranked 27th in the QS World University Rankings 2020, while in national tables it was ranked 15th by the Complete University Guide 2020, 34th by the Guardian University Guide 2020 and joint 19th by the Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019. King’s College London #33

King’s College London is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom, and a founding college and member institution of the federal University of London. King’s was established in 1829 by King George IV and Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, when it received its first royal charter (as a university college), and is one of the oldest universities in England.

It is a member of academic organisations including the Association of Commonwealth Universities, European University Association, and the Russell Group. King’s is home to six Medical Research Council centres. The University of Sheffield (top 10 in UK)

The University of Sheffield is a public research university in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, the Worldwide Universities Network, the N8 Group of the eight most research intensive universities in Northern England and the White Rose University Consortium.

Sheffield ranks among the top 10 of UK universities for research grant funding, and it has become number one in the UK for income and investment in engineering research according to new data published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

Sheffield was placed 78th worldwide and 12th in the UK according to QS World University Rankings. The Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2014 ranked the University of Sheffield 1st for student experience, social life, university facilities and accommodation, among other categories.

The University of Exeter is a public research university in Exeter, Devon, South West England, United Kingdom. It combines world class research with excellent student satisfaction at its campuses in Exeter and Cornwall. The University of Hong Kong #25

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is a public research university in Hong Kong. It is the oldest tertiary institution in Hong Kong. Also, HKU is the first university established by the British Empire in East Asia. HKU is one of the best universities in Hong Kong and Asia.

As of 2019, HKU ranks second in Asia by QS and fourth by THE, and around top 25 internationally. It has been commonly regarded as one of the most internationalized universities in the world as well as one of the most prestigious universities in Asia.

 

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology #32

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a public research university in Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong. Founded in 1991 by the British Hong Kong Government, it was the territory’s third institution to be granted university status.

As of 2019, the university was ranked seventh in Asia by QS and third by Times, and around top 32 internationally. It also ranked first in Times Higher Education Young University Rankings in 2019 and second by QS world’s under-50 universities in 2020.
