IB Teachers – Lifelong Learners

In Boston International School, our IB teachers are given access to high quality professional development that encourages critical thinking, self-reflection and dedication to lifelong learning. During the past two weeks, our teachers got opportunities to attend IB workshops both in and out the school.

Secondary School: Cambridge and IB Continuum Schools Conference 2019

On Sep 26th, Executive President Ms Sue Su, Secondary Principal Dr Ann Wagner and DP Coordinator Mr Matthew Kirk from Boston International School attended Cambridge and IB Continuum Schools Conference 2019 at EtonHouse International School in Suzhou.

A thought provoking Keynote Speech on ‘The Future of Education’ was given on the conference. During a Panel Discussion session that took part in by school principals and leaders, BIS attendees outlined our school contexts and shared ideas.
The discussion then switched to focus on the benefits and challenges of fusing together Cambridge IGCSE (as part of the final two years of IB MYP) with IB Diploma as the post-16 pathway. They all believed that this continuum was the best pathway for our students in a forward thinking, international school environment.

Primary School: IB Regional Training Session

During National Day holidays, four of our Primary teachers, including PYP Coordinator Mr David Brmner and EY Coordinator Ms Bibiana Garcia visited the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) for three days to participate in an IB regional training session. The group attended two workshops.

For David and Sneha, they spent three days looking at evidencing learning. This gave them the opportunity to consider the best ways for teachers to gather useful evidence to help us monitor, record, document, and report on the learning that happens across Primary and Early Years at Boston International School.

Bibiana and Sonia had the chance to spend three days sharing our practice and ideas with other colleagues from around China about Play-based Learning, a practice that allows young learners to develop their knowledge, their understanding of concepts and their vocabulary through what they do best: playing.

Regional workshops like this are a powerful opportunity for teachers and educational professionals to learn more about their craft and to create wider networks of other like-minded professionals with which to share ideas and good practice.
Teacher In-Service

On Sep 27th, teachers gathered together for a second Teacher In-Service Day this semester. Teacher In-Service is set once per month for teachers to meet and learn more about pedagogy, curriculum, and many other important topics in order to deliver the best lessons to students.

As the only IB Continuum School in Wuxi, Boston International School has an experienced team of more than 70 international teachers. All of them have international teacher qualifications, an average of more than 10 years teaching experience, more than 5 years of IB teaching experience, and more than 1/3 of the teachers have a master’s degree or above.
