The Folk Tradition
Students are learning how folk music is an aural tradition in which songs and dances are adapted and arranged according to the resources, stylistic interests of the performers and the occasion.
This unit explores: use and arrangement of traditional melodies and dances; songs and dances learned aurally; use of pentatonic and modal folk melodies; drone accompaniments; use of traditional folk instruments.
For the most students this performance is quite challenging as they perform all together for the first time. They have to play eight different lines in accordance and it is very difficult even for the experienced musicians. So, they learn to be balanced. This activityraises their professionalism and self-estimation. Students learn how to use teamwork to achieve the best result.
