G6 have been learning about physical storytelling through methods of mime and tableau. This unit focuses on using non-verbal communication to tell stories that could be understood and enjoyed across cultures. Pictured here, students are rehearsing for their mime performance in the upcoming MYP Winter Concert and collaborating with their peers in the music class to pair folk music with physical storytelling.
In Design Cycle, students have begun presenting their ideas and ground plans for theirstage design proposals for this year’s production. Students must deliver scale drawings(ground plans, front elevations, side elevations) reflecting the school’s auditorium proscenium stage, proposing designs that include the necessary props and stylistic elements of a fantasy stage. They were asked to consider how much space will be necessary for a musical production, while also having to factor in enough decoration according to the theme of the stage. Students are competing to see their designs realized in the April school production. Below is a pair of students presenting their ideas to their peers before being able to move on to the next stage of planning.
