On February 21st 2019, Boston International School welcomed the delegation of 28 people of St. Joseph High School, including the President Dr. William J Fitzgerald and his wife Susan, the Principal Dr. James Keane and the teacher representative Mr. Mitchell DeLancy, all the way from Trumbull, Connecticut USA.
Boston International School gave the warmest welcome to the group of teachers and students. Our Executive President Ms. Sue Su, Executive Principal Mr. Rob Stewart, Secondary Principal Ms. Ann Wagner and Student Service Director/College Counselor Mr. Michael Wagner all came and welcomed the group to visit Boston International School.
Teachers and students of St. Joseph High School visited BIS two years ago in the year of 2017, while this brand new campus was still in construction. Now two years later, with our new campus in full operation, students and teachers from St. Joseph were amazed of this beautiful facility, in terms of the campus design, the classroom set-up, all the language classrooms and other function classrooms.
Students from St. Joseph were especially interested in our Multi-media classroom, which was designed to be able to hold live class between us and other schools all over the world with a simple web-link connect. They also enjoyed and learned a bit more of BIS through the school video we played at the same time.
The group then went to our Art Studio, where our art teacher Ms. Rina Venter introduced how our Art Studio is designed and functioned, how our art classes are being held and the art projects that our DP students are working on. Students were very excited to have the opportunity to see BIS students’ art exhibition.
With one of BIS D2 students, Ruoming in the art class during the visit, our Student Service Director/College Counselor Mr. Michael Wagner shared the good news of Ruoming’s College Acceptance. Ruoming has received acceptance from 6 universities of USA, Fordham University, Penn State University, Rutgers, Binghamton University, University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University. The crowd all cheered for her college success!
To help St. Joseph students understand more about the Chinese Culture, BIS Mandarin teachers have organized various culture related activities for them. Chinese knots, Paper cutting and the Dragon Dance! St. Joseph students enjoyed the experience very much, especially had so much fun dancing the dragon, and got to bring back some souvenirs made by themselves back home!
After the fun activities, students from both schools participated in the mixed boys and girls’ basketball & volleyball matches. Students from both school fought hard and had a great game with each other!
Our Executive President Ms. Sue Su, Executive Principal Mr. Rob Stewart, Secondary Principal Ms. Ann Wagner also had a close talk with St. Joseph’s President Dr. William J Fitzgerald and his wifeSusan, and the Principal Dr. James Keane in regards to the future exchange programs between the two schools. By providing the opportunities of sending teachers and students to each other, we believe both our students and teachers can benefit a lot from the experience.
This is a great opportunity for our students and students from St. Joseph high school to get to know each other, to learn from each other and more about the cultures. Students from both schools had a close talk during dinner time and exchanged gifts accordingly. We are looking forward to the next visit and the opportunities to visit them!
