Teachers gathered on August 30 for the first Boston International School Teacher In-Service Day. These days are set aside once per month on a Friday for teachers to meet and learn more about pedagogy, curriculum, and many other important topics in order to deliver the best lessons to students.
The first session was mainly focused on the IB Self-Study. In March 2020, BIS will be visited by the IB for their 5-year review. The IB will be looking at matters related to the mission and vision, resources, curriculum, and teaching in order to guide the school for future years. All teachers have been given one area to focus on, and principals and coordinators led these groups as teachers reflected on best practices as well as helped to gather documentation. Rather than directly separating them according to departments, teachers were given opportunities to choose a topic they interested in. Through that way, teachers from different departments also got the chance to exchange their opinions standing in various points of views.
Teachers also spent time planning with one another in small groups in order to deliver high quality lessons to students. Many teachers commented about how valuable the time was in order to give them new ideas and that the opportunity to share thoughts with one another will help to move them forward in their teaching.
Boston International School has now developed a strong faculty team that contains more than 70 foreign teachers and all of them have international teacher qualifications, an average of more than 10 years teaching experience, more than 5 years of IB teaching experience, and more than 1/3 of the teachers have a master’s degree or above. In 2019/2020 academic year, Boston International School will be under the leadership of our Senior Executive Team.
