Winter Book Fair

It is the time of the year when your favorite activity is cuddling up with a great book. It is also this time of the year when you start thinking for the perfect gift to offer to your beloved ones. The Winter Book Fair was there for you! It was a continuous effort initiated by our School Library to provide opportunities for students and teachers to connect with books and rekindle their love for reading. From November 26 to 28, Beijing Star Kids Children’s Bookstore made it all the way to BIS and held the event for three exuberant days with students, parents and teachers.

Wuxi Mandarin Competition

On November 20, a group of BIS students participated in the 8th Chinese Competition for Foreign Students in Wuxi held by Wuxi Education Bureau. Eighty students from international schools and bilingual schools in Wuxi participated in the competition. Showing their talents and contesting in Chinese quiz, the students surprised all the audience with their fluent Mandarin and rich Chinese culture knowledge.

Congratulations to BIS for winning the Outstanding Organization Award, presented by Ms. Lin, Head of International Cooperation and Communication Division of Wuxi Education Bureau.

Wuxi Annual Foreign Language Festival

On November 27, Boston International School was invited to attend the 4th Annual Foreign Language Festival of Wuxi Hi-tech Zone (Xin Wu District). Our G11 students sang an English Song to a guitar and drum accompaniment. The song was composed by the students with name of Empty Dream, expressing their thinking to dreams and surroundings from teens who are in the certain growth period of middle school. After competition and judge by the experts, the performance stood out among the others and won the “Most Creative Award”.  Our Secondary Principal, Dr Ann Wagner, took the stage to receive the award on behalf of BIS. The Foreign Language Festival is sponsored and organized by Education Burau and Education Development Center of Xinwu District with purpose of advancing the Spoken-English level and international literacy of students in all schools of Xinwu District.

EY4 Dormitory Tour

Our EY4 students are learning their Unit of Inquiry about Home: “People build homes and living environments that reflect who they are and where they live.”  On November 21, they paid their visit to our dormitory! During the tour, they recorded their observations and discussed “home life” at Boston with 5 boarding students.

Parent Workshop

How to Use ManageBac

On November 20, our PYP Coordinator, Mr. David Bremner, gave parents an overview about ManageBac, the leading planning, assessment and reporting platform for the IB continuum. Parents were also instructed by our IT Department to set up their own accounts.

Student Comfort in the Physical Classroom Space

The physical classroom environment is “imperative” to student satisfaction with the course. (Han, Kiatkawsin, Kim, and Hong, 2017)

On November 27, our Secondary Principal, Dr. Ann Wagner, held the Parent Workshop about Student Comfort in the Physical Classroom Space. Using research tools like surveys, interview, theoretical and conceptual frameworks, Dr Ann Wagner presented her research results to parents, as well as some of the improvements the school has implemented on campus.

Principal Tea

On November 21 and November 28, our Japanese and Korean parents shared their pleasant morning with our Secondary Principal Dr Ann Wagner and Academic Principal and Primary Principal Mr. Brian Rotunno.
