At BIS, we value well-being, so we maintain a safe, healthy, and happy learning community. The school nurse station plays an essential part in that vision and in the practice of public health. The nurse station protects and promotes student health, bridging the gap between health care and education, providing care coordination and advocating for quality student-centered care.
There are two nurse stations inside our campus, one of them set in the Early Years Center and the other one set for Elementary School and Secondary School. The responsibilities of the nurse stations are to:
- Develop and monitor health plans for students.
- Assess and deal with students’ illness or injury.
- Accompany students to hospital in the event of an emergency.
- Administer routine medications.
- Report students’ food allergies.
- Report AQI index and issue high AQI alert.
- Take the COVID nucleic acid samples of all staff and students.
- Draft and issue all kinds of measures and policies related to public health.
- Estimate students’ mental status and report to the school counselor.
- EY students are checked every morning for their conditions.
School nurses are well positioned to take the lead for the school health system in partnering with the community and government organizations. Equipped with professional nurse certificates, our school nurses also get regular professional development sessions from superior administrative institutes to make sure students are treated with up-to-date measures.
Over the past two years our nurse station is busier because of COVID-related jobs, including tracking and recording students’ travel history, taking whole school nucleic acid samples, communicate between the school and the public health organizations.
BIS is dedicated in providing a safe, healthy, and happy learning community, and we recognize the work that Nurse Charlie and Nurse Yolanda do to help us provide that.
