Online Learning Feedback from Parents

Online Learning Feedback from Parents

by BIS / 2020.03.02 Monday / Published in news & event

It has been the third week of BIS Online Learning Program. We have received some feedbacks from parents. We are very grateful that parents are working with us during this special period and willing to share their experiences with us!

EY     EY4B Anja’s parent

Anja’s teacher sends a list of items to be done for the week on Monday. We only get time at night to attend to studies which Anja is eager to do, mommy would explain the work or read the story as required and instruct Anja to complete one of the tasks which mommy feels is easiest to explain to Anja. Daily life mom attends mostly to the household and baby so Anja is mostly independent from mommy. We submit all assignments before the Sunday evening.

Anja knows people are sick but she doesn’t comprehend the extend and she gets bored at home now she also wants to play and misses friends, so when we have time we will go walking a bit outside and look at the fishes just to get some air and hope to meet someone to have some form of contact with others.

For us as parents we feel the Chinese government is doing a good job under the circumstances. We don’t feel at risk at all.

PYP   P1 Cristina and P5 Nicola’s parent

It has been the third week of Online Learning. Primary School students are using apps like Razkids, SpellingCity and IXL to study.

  • Razkids
Razkids is an online guided English reading program with rankings. Once a book is finished, the app provides reading and quiz for summary. Kids are happy to get rewards.

  • SpellingCity
SpellingCity is for the study of vowel and consonant.

  • IXL
IXL contains a big bank of Primary Math quiz with various categories. The quiz is interesting and helps to analyze the mistakes.

For Science and Technology, Primary School students are assigned to make kites and parachutes. They enjoyed the tasks a lot.

Last week, the story of Jack and Beanstalk by P1 teacher Mrs routnno requires design of characters and models. We happily immersed ourselves into the assignment.
The assignment for P1-P3 from Mr Bremner demands not only creative thoughts, but also writing and drawing skills. For P1, they only need to submit some pictures and writings, while P3 have to submit more. P5 students were asked to attend a writing competition – Sleep Giant.

MYP    G7 Yannis’ parent

Grade 7 I&S requires students’ understanding of history and their English level. Yannis like I&S. Ms Smith is very good at using logical and visual tools to make her PowerPoints attractive. Students won’t be boring to study her PowerPoints as lots of videos are also included. The summary for the first week is about the Spanish Flu and Coronavirus, while Treaty of Vansel for the second week. All assignments attach importance to academic qualities.

MYP   G7 Carmen’s parent

Carmen’s daily routine: School work in the morning, break for lunch, school work in the afternoon. WeChat with Grandparents, then exercise and practice dancing in the evening. Read books before going to bed.

The assignments are challenging without classroom lectures and class discussions, but teachers prepared the programs with good handouts and reference material. As parents, we also review the assignments and look for the reference materials on the internet.

Hope the situation gets better soon.

Please continue to stay healthy, study hard and keep positive! We are looking forward to seeing you soon on the beautiful campus.
