Improvisation
During this week, the year 8 students are focusing on collaboration and taking suggestions from peers as part of the lead-up to their improvisational performance learning. This has been scaffolded to allow for an embodied experience of what it means to listen to one another, take peer suggestions and work together. This is key for an ensemble to function well on stage and throughout the rehearsal process. Pictured here is an exploration called The Human Knot, wherein students make a knot as a whole class group and are required to untangle themselves without letting go of their hands.
Improvisation forms part of the Dramatic Arts curriculum, which has been introduced as a discrete discipline this year. This unit is focused on developing quick-thinking, storytelling skills and techniques as well as thinking creatively and imaginatively according to the key criterion of the Drama Arts in IB.
