BIS is proud to announce that we have received feedback from the Western Association of Colleges and Schools, and we have been accredited for another three years through 2025! This is a major accomplishment for our school, and we are proud of the work of faculty, staff, students, and parents who have helped to make this accomplishment possible.
“We are proud to have received accreditation through 2025, and we appreciate everyone’s efforts to make this possible,” said Brian Rotunno, Academic Principal for BIS. “We continue to build a rigorous school with robust programs that make us competitive with any school in both Jiangsu Province and beyond.”
According to its website, WASC is 1 of 6 accrediting agencies in the US and works with 5200 schools and organizations worldwide through the accrediting process. Through the accreditation process, parents and other stakeholders are able to know that a school has met certain standards for teaching/learning/assessment, child protection, governance, finance, and human resource practices.
Although BIS received many positive notes in the report, we would like to share the following with everyone that we are particularly proud of:
- Passionate teachers and leaders for their commitment to addressing students’ academic and social-emotional needs and to improving teaching and learning at BIS.
- Knowledgeable School Community Liaison (SCL) personnel who can translate and communicate in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and English to support and ease the transition and settling in process for students and parents.
- The Student Services team for developing a robust co-curricular program including student and adult-led clubs of academic, artistic, athletic, and personal interest, a growing middle and high school sports program of ten competitive sports for boys and girls, and a vibrant, weeklong experiential and service-learning program which support student achievement.
- The Senior Executive Team, learning coordinators, and teachers for the adoption and application of curricular standards to inform the delivery and alignment of content knowledge and to complement the PYP and MYP inquiry-based framework.
“WASC’s most recent recognition of Boston International School is another sign that we are providing high quality school experiences for our students. Our most recent WASC report credits the work we do with research-based teaching and learning methods, as well as evidence-based decision making strategies,” said Mr. David Bremner, Assistant Academic Principal.
As the only school in Wuxi that is both IB-authorized and WASC accredited, BIS believes that we continue to provide excellent opportunities for students, parents, and other stakeholders.
