Global Citizenship – Charity Events for Movember and KIVA

The IB framework is committed to developing students who will make a meaningful contribution to the world, both during and after their education. As the ONLY IB Continuum School in Wuxi, Boston International School always encourage students to devote into community services and charity events, which cultivates their spirit of international citizens. During last week, our Secondary students led two charity events. 

Movember & More

From inviting teachers to participate, designing posters, selling lottery ticket and trailer editing and event organization, Secondary students from Design classes in Entrepreneurship presented BIS with a warm Movember & More assembly in the chilling weather where everyone had great fun.

Movember (a portmanteau of the Australian-English diminutive word for moustache, “mo”, and “November”) is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues. This year in BIS, we developed the idea Movember into “Movember & More”. Besides men’s conditions, other groups are also taken into consideration. Thus, we shaved and dyed teachers!

On November 28, students, faculty and staff members gathered in the auditorium excitedly to find out who were the lucky chosen ones able to shave or dye the teachers!

The final ticket sales reveue will be donated to the China Cancer Foundation to help people who are in need.

Dream Party for KIVA

Design – MUN students are going to support several individuals and groups through KIVA, an NGO that helps people in trouble to get loans. This was started by raising money from a charity-party themed “Dream” on November 29.

The students did a lot preparation to make the best of the event, which showed their skills of communication, organization and leadership.

The party started with a mini buffet, sponsored by our parents. Afterwards, our talented students presented their amazing live concert, including band shows, piano and singing. A raffle and photo corner shooting drew a perfect end to the party.

All ticket and lottery sales will go to KIVA.
