Mr Douglas A. Horton

Populations in Transition

Recently in Geography, we looked at gender issues and some problems that women face in certain cultures around the world.  Alternatively, we also examined societies where women have had the chance to choose their own path and excel in their chosen field.

The students were given an assignment to research two women whom they feel were important and influential.  The women chosen could be from any country and any time in history.  The students were given specific criteria based on this theme.

The format of this assignment is a PowerPoint.  The students will carry out their research and then organize the information into a PowerPoint presentation.  This not only gives them practice with research (finding information, deciding which information to use, and proper referencing) it also allows them to practice their presentation skills, which are useful in any subject area.  The specific IB learner profiles addressed in this assignment are inquirer, knowledgeable and communicator.
