Future Starts Here – BIS 2022 Summer Career Exploration Program

Summer is an opportune time for students to discover how they can apply their talents and skills to their future careers. Through our College Counseling team and Future Ready Center, this summer, BIS offered our high school students an exciting Career Exploration and Experience Program.

This special opportunity connected our students with adult professionals in the everyday world of occupations and services to sample their own interests, learn about the diversity of job responsibilities, and experience firsthand where their educational pursuits can take them through actual internships.

The Future Ready internship program contains a large variety of positions from different industries including pharmaceuticals, hospitals, hospitality, galleries, museums, manufacturing, travel and tourism, and entertainment.

Pullman, Wuxi New Lake

Erica, G11

Pullman hotel internship was a great opportunity for me to learn various things. For one week I worked in different sections of the hotel. I worked at a western restaurant, in the Executive Lounge, at the front desk, and in the coffee shop. Through those activities, I learned about service and responsibilities within each division. For example, one day I went to the reception area of the hotel, and we sold products from the coffee shop. I think through this activity I learned the way to promote the hotel and as well as the coffee shop. I think it was a rich opportunity to learn more about the hotel industry.

Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University

Arnav, G11

I had always wanted to be a doctor. However, I was told by many that it is not worth it because it requires a tremendous amount of effort, causing me to question my chosen career path. I had always wanted to work at a hospital to get a better understanding of medicine. Hence, I was overjoyed when I was provided the opportunity to participate in an internship program in the hospital. Even though it was a lot of hard work, and my back would ache at the end of the day as I was not used to standing up for so long, I still did not regret my decision as the satisfaction of helping all the people kept me going. Through this experience my love for medicine did not diminish because of all the hard work, but increased significantly, promoting me to finally confirm my career path!

I learned a lot about how pharmaceuticals are made; I didn’t know that it is really complicated to make medicine. I also learned about all the diversity and complexities of machines that we cannot actually see that are involved in the process, and how they are used and their functions. I think in the future this will help me understand better about biology, a future interest of mine. If I launch a career at a pharmaceutical-related company, I think it will be very helpful as I become accustomed to the industry faster.

We are very proud of our students for their excellent performance during the summer. At BIS, students have a lot of opportunities to participate in different activities, through which they are able to discover their passions lies and develop a clear vision of their career paths as they become Future Ready.
