Discover the World with Sensory Play

Discover the World with Sensory Play

by BIS / 2019.11.20 Wednesday / Published in news & event

Boston International School Early Years Center adopts the IB framework and, at the same time, is inspired by Reggio Emilia practices which enhances the existing environment to inspire and investigate active learning through structured play. We place a strong emphasize on teachers’ and students’ interaction and communication to establish learning models through daily exploration.

On November 15, parents had a chance to share a pleasant morning with our EY students and teachers for Sensory Play, a method that plays an important role in children’s physical and mental development.

After a brief introduction by our EY Coordinator, Ms. Bibiana Garcia, parents and students were divided into 8 different squads and started their experiences according to the maps they were given.

They incorporated senses, including sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste into Sensory Play. Outside the building, students enjoyed their painting on the air bubble film, using different tools to play with the slime ribbons and watching with the different tools.

While inside the classrooms, they danced along the music, guessed what instruments they had heard, tasted different things to make sandwiches, and even had an exploration hunting the candies in the dark room with the torch and light-sticks!

Benefits of Sensory Play include development of children’s cognition, fine and gross motor skills, language skills, memory skills, social skills and creativities, which align with IB framework and prepare them better with future studies.
