As a school prepares students to become global citizens by providing authentic learning experiences, BIS aims to help students clarify their thinking about college options; make intelligent and informed choices; and present themselves and their credentials as accurately and clearly as possible.

Among all the factors, we really believe that academic competitions provide a fun and engaging way to challenge our students, allowing them to showcase their talents and compete with integrity, and more importantly, boost their college admission prospects.

Welcome student in and out of BIS to participate in a number of academic competitions throughout the year. With our help, parents and students can easily navigate through the world of competitions and able to make the best judgments on which competitions to attend.

 

International History Bee and Bowl

IHBB are two English language history quiz competitions for over 50,000 students from 1,000 schools around the world. International History Bee is for individual student; International History Bowl is for teams. The competition tests knowledge of all fields, eras, and locations in history, and the quiz questions are specifically tailored to the abilities of the students at each tournament.

2022 Shanghai Spring Tournament

Date: March 27, 2022

Registration Deadline: March 14, 2022

 

Canadian Association of Physics Prize Exam

The CAP Prize exam is hosted by CAP and the University of British Columbia. It stresses logical and creative thinking, by asking questions that go beyond the expectation of the classroom, therefore, highly recognized by selective universities in Canada and US.

Date: 9:30am – 12:30pm, April 10, 2022

Registration Deadline: March 30, 2022

 

International Brain Bee Championship

IBB, a neuroscience competition for teens, is consist of 3 levels of competition: local, national and international. The material draws from university and medical school course content and requires thoughtful preparation. All participants are expected to support one another throughout the experience, during and between contest sections-Neuroanatomy, Diagnosis, Live Q&A, Written, Histology.

Date: 10:00-11:30am, March 19, 2022

Registration Deadline: February 25, 2022

 

The New York Times STEM Writing Contest

Student ages 16-19 years old are invited to choose an issue or question in science, technology, engineering, or math, then write an engaging 500-word explanation. Special technical or scientific knowledge is not required, and each is designed to get our attention and keep it — by giving us “news we can use” in our own lives, or by exploring something fascinating in a way that makes it easy to understand and shows us why it matters.

Contest Dates: February 2 to March 9, 2022

 

China Youth Observation Project (YOC)

Students choose a local problem worthy of in-depth research and reporting and carry out the corresponding investigation with a mid-length written report. The topic can reveal the deep facts and logical relations behind the problem, arouse the public’s concern and thinking about this problem. News photography, illustration design, graphic design and other visual art elements can also be used in the report.

The team consists of 6-10 students.

Contest Dates: February 22 to May 10, 2022

 

American Regions Mathematics League Local

The ARML local competition consists of multiple rounds, including a team round, an individual round and tiebreaker question, and three relay rounds. There are 6 students in a team competing with 2000 students from 150 teams around the world. Usually, schools would select top students from AMC to attend ARML.

Physics Bowl (AAPT)

The Physics Bowl Contest is an international high school competition. School teams compete regionally with other school teams. Students will take a 40-question, 45-minute timed, multiple-choice test under school’s supervision. Exam questions are based on topics and concepts covered in a typical high school physics course.

Date: 14:00-14:45, March 26, 2022

Registration Deadline: March 16, 2022
