Boston International School: A Learning Community of Wellbeing

Boston International School: A Learning Community of Wellbeing

by BIS / 2022.06.10 Friday / Published in news & event

At Boston we embrace the challenges of growth and drive change  through our personal and interpersonal care and support for one another. At Boston we cultivate the reflective qualities to identify our needs, talk about them, share them with others, to use the resources available to us and be ready to be there for our community. We are as one family at BIS!

Our approaches to wellbeing and inclusion are integrated into how we do everything!

Homeroom periods

Homeroom periods school-wide create a space for inclusion and discussions on building community, solving problems, and winning goals together.

Vision in Purpose (V.i.P.)

Meanwhile, our G6-12 Vision in Purpose (V.i.P.) advising curriculum moves students through a continuum of life-changes, healthy relationships, mental wellness awareness, reproductive/sexual health, career development, college counseling and the admissions process. Through ViP students realize self-respect, personal values, empathy in caring for others, building community, and developing purpose applied towards meaningful occupations.

Mentor program

Through our Mentor program teachers become mentors to secondary students and intentionally/sincerely engage their mentees through a frequent hello/a wave/a smile, through friendly check-ins on our inter-school messaging platform, and maybe having lunch together in the canteen.

Boston Explorers

Finally, our Boston Explorers activities and clubs offer a safe place for students to dive deep into personal interest or explore new curiosities in hobbies. They may take on new academic and experiential challenges all while cooperating in an environment where teachers and students lead their BEs as an expression of their personal interests offered to others from EY to senior students.

Along the way of wellness at Boston, teachers work with their coordinators weekly to develop their craft in delivering a meaningful, accessible, and rigorous program to our students. In that same spirit, teachers receive support from their coordinators, principals, and the Senior Executive Team through wellness surveys and check-ins, dialogue on strategies for healthy perspectives and managing stress, and provided resources for individual teachers and/or their families for nurturing mental wellness or crisis management and intervention.

Boston is proud to be a place where students learn about themselves, believe in themselves, challenge themselves, embrace adversity, and develop a mindset that they can make change personally, in the lives of others, and towards the world by sharing their ideas and working together. We believe that the wellbeing of students and teacher are more than good grades and teaching. We believe that our wellbeing is cared for best through community and a greater vision for all.
