Congratulations to our students on the academic excellence in AP exams!
- Grade 9 student achieved maximum AP score of 5
- Excellent scores of 4 and 5
- Students participating in AP Modern World History, AP Physics, AP Psychology, AP Calculus and AP Chinese Language & Culture exams.
Last academic year (2020/21), BIS offered a one-year AP Modern World History class to a selected group of Grade 9 students. We also had a number of students in Grade 12 being supported by our subject teachers for examinations in AP Physics, AP Psychology, AP Calculus and AP Chinese Language & Culture. Overall, we were delighted with the results achieved by our students. The results saw a number of students earning AP scores that would get them college credit in many universities, including a number of excellent scores of 4 and 5.
Given that most AP students are in G11 and G12, and that only 8.6% achieve a 5, the fact that one of our G9 students achieved a 5 is a remarkable demonstration of student determination.
We were particularly proud of students in the Grade 9 AP Modern World History class who, at a young age for taking an AP course, rose to the challenge. All of these students thrived on the extended academic rigor and opportunity that were given to them as part of our High School program at BIS. We would like to extend our congratulations to Andy Wu, the first BIS student to receive a 5 on the AP Modern World History course. We asked Andy about some advice he would give to future AP students:
“What I did was simply to focus on class and review the subject on a daily basis and be consistent throughout the whole year, which is very basic but crucial. And frankly, anybody can do that, but make sure you keep it up and do not skip even a single day… Therefore, I encourage you to be optimistic about this subject even if you do not like it because human nature prefers joy to tediousness. You should always strive for the former not just for the sake of scoring well in the exam but also for your happiness. Study on a daily basis and be fond of the subject can give you more than a satisfactory score. They will render you a life-long passion for history and all humanities-related subjects, which is way above the scope of an AP World History Modern exam.”

This academic year (2021/22) we are thrilled to be extending our taught AP courses to AP Modern World History and AP Human Geography for Grades 9 and 10. Additionally, we will continue to advise and support High School students opting to take other AP examinations.
