BIS Opens A National Honor Society Chapter!

BIS is proud to announce that we have opened a National Honor Society Chapter! BIS is one of few schools in China to offer NHS to its students. An induction ceremony was held on September 14th to celebrate and induct the NHS members of BIS.

The ceremony started with the welcome speech from our Academic Principal, Mr. Brian Rotunno. Then an NHS alumnus from our faculty, Mr. Michael Johnson, shared his experience on stage.

Led by MYP Coordinator Ms. Laura Ward, four inductees briefly introduced the four pillars of NHS – Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.

Afterwards, four candles standing for the four pillars were lit. The members made their pledge and received pins and certificates from our Academic Principal, Mr. Brian Rotunno and High School Coordinator, Mr. Matthew Kirk, in recognition of their NHS membership.

 

The National Honor Society (NHS)

The National Honor Society (NHS) is an American premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with NHS membership since its beginning in 1921.

 

As the only IB continuum school in Wuxi, BIS is authorized and accredited by various international academic associations.

IB – The International Baccalaureate® is a non-profit educational foundation offering four programmes of international education.

WASC – WASC is 1 of 6 accrediting agencies in the US and works with 5200 schools and organizations worldwide through the accrediting process.
College Board – The College Board is an American nonprofit organization. BIS is authorized to deliver PSAT/SAT exams and AP classes.
Cambridge Assessment  International Education – It is a non-profit and non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge. Cambridge Assessment International Education is a provider of international qualifications, offering examinations and qualifications to 10,000 schools in more than 160 countries.
AAIE – AAIE is a non-profit, membership-based international organization that partners with educational institutions and associations worldwide to exchange international ideas, resources and research that help develop and improve international education, to diversify and expand school leadership capacity.
ACAMIS – ACAMIS is a non-profit association of over 50 international schools in eastern Asia with the aim to broaden education dimensions, advance professional growth, and promote international friendship within the participating schools through activities, events and competitions.
NatStuCo – The National Student Council Organization is a professional group out of the US that encourages and promotes Student Council activities throughout North America and other international schools.  It is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
