To celebrate International Women’s Day, Boston International School and Boston Parent Association held a joint event of Chinese Traditional Hairpin Workshop to our mothers on March 3rd. The workshop was hosted by Ms. You Xiuyuan, a well-known expert of Chinese traditional culture. The event started with a traditional ritual dance and poem recital with participants wearing traditional costume.
Ms. You then went on to introduce Chinese traditional women’s calligraphy, which is a national intangible cultural heritage. The beautiful characters and the meaning it delivered impressed all the present mothers. Afterwards, following the guidance of Ms. You, the mothers experienced the process of making a traditional-style hairpin themselves.
The event was successfully concluded with a short training session of traditional etiquette. We were honored to have this opportunity to experience the traditional culture and celebrate the International Women’s Day.
