2019 Graduates Series – Manage Your Time

2019 Graduates Series – Manage Your Time

by bostonis2 / 2019.07.11 Thursday / Published in NEWS, news & event

Upon the ending of this academic year, our D2 graduates are getting ready for their new adventure.

We interviewed four of our outstanding graduates and see what they think about their past school years and their brand-new future.

Jeeyeoun is one of our Korean graduates who have received offers from top universities including UCL (2019 QS #10), York University (2,000 CAD Scholarship), University of British Columbia (10,000 CAD Scholarship), University of Toronto (20,000 CAD Scholarship), University of Bristol, University of Southampton, University of Manchester and University of Waterloo.

1

Q: In which grade did you start in IB school?

A: Since P3.

2

Q: What’s the difference between IB and your previous curriculum?

A: I think in an IB school, we not only learn academically to solve like math problems, but also develop ourselves into a LEARNER. Like how to do the research critically, how to gain more information, how tomaster the ability of learning. Actually PYP prepares me to develop these abilities.

BIS is the only IB Continuum school in Wuxi.

3

Q: What do you think are the most important elements of IBDP?

A: IBDP is very intensive. The curriculum is almost the similar level to the first year in university. Therefore, time management is the most important for me. When we transit from PYP to MYP, our homework increased gradually in a manageable amount, which made the transition kind of smooth and prepared us for time management ability.

4

Q: Besides IBDP scores, what do you think also value a lot when applying for colleges?

A: I think you have to show who you are as a person. The universities are looking for someone whomakes valuable addition to their community, both the school and the society.

5

Q: How do they learn who you are?

A: By personal statements. Different schools have different limits, some limit a personal statement in 600 words, some limit in 1000 characters. Anyway, you have to conclude everything in very limited words. It actually makes the writing harder. I think CAS and ECA are very helpful to show who you are.

6

Q: Do you think our College Counselling Program very helpful?

A: Yes. My College Counsellor Mr. Wagner helped me pick 10 school in three levels, that is safe ones, intermediate ones and ones you have to try.

7

Q: Do you have any advices of college application?

A: Writing university application was indeed difficult, but it was also a good opportunity to think and get to know about myself. Through this process, I’ve come to realize how important it is to take time to constantly think/reflect upon yourself and your life-long goal not only for the university application but also for your future.

Congratulations to Jeeyoun!
