2019 Graduates Series – IB Develops My Personal Character

2019 Graduates Series – IB Develops My Personal Character

by BIS / 2019.06.27 Thursday / Published in NEWS, news & event

Upon the ending of this academic year, our D2 graduates are getting ready for their new adventure.

We interviewed four of our outstanding graduates and see what they think about their past school years and their brand-new future.

Ruoming is one of our graduates who comes from the USA. She has received offers from top universities in America, including Carnegie Mellon University (2019 US News Ranking #25), University of Pittsburgh (2019 US News Ranking #43), Fordham University (18,500 USD Scholarship), Penn State University, Rutgers University of Arts and Sciences (10,000 USD Scholarship), SUNY Binghamton University (40,000 USD Provost’s Scholarship), University of North Carolina at Charlotte and West Virginia University (Scholarship TBD).

1

Q: In which grade did you start in IB school?

A: Since P5.

2

Q: How is IB different from your previous curriculum?

A: It values a lot more on personal development and human characters, like interacting with others and help you find more about yourself. IB definitely provides a good balance between academics and personal character building.

Q: What do you think are the most important elements of IBDP?

A: I think all the three core elements of IBDP: TOK (Theory of Knowledge), EE (Extended Essay) and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) are equally important. With the three core elements, IB not only focuses on academics, but also prepare students for their future career. ECA also plays an important role.

Q: Does our College Counselling Program helped a lot with college application?

A: Yes. My College Counsellor Mr. Wagner offered great help. He considered a lot, like you may not like your major in your first year and probably gonna change a major from the second year. Does the school offer that? He will consider everything for you and help make the final choice.

Q: Is there anything you would like to share about college application?

A: Grades are important, and it is crucial to keep them consistent. However, grades are definitely not everything, personal character and experiences are equally as important. Universities are not looking for studying machines who are engineered to sit and study all day and ace an exam at the end of the semester, they are looking for well-rounded, capable individuals who will benefit from and contribute to communities of other students. They want people who will be able to enrich the environment which they end up in, they want to see someone with hobbies and ambitions, no matter what they may be outside of school. It is important to go outside and see the world, experience new things, challenge yourself, while of course keeping your life balanced. It has to be a good balance of academics, personal interests, and social life.

Congratulations to Ruoming!
